The Greenlandic film industry receives the "Sær-Bodil" 2026
The Greenland Film Institute is pleased that the Greenlandic film industry has been awarded the Sær-Bodil 2026. The award is presented by the Danish Film Critics as recognition of the many people who have worked for decades to build a Greenlandic film industry and create the framework for Greenlandic stories to be told by Greenlanders themselves.
In their justification, the Danish Film Critics emphasize that the establishment of the Greenlandic Film Institute in 2025 marked a decisive step in the development of a sustainable Greenlandic film industry. At the same time, they point to the importance of film for national identity and cohesion.
The award was received on behalf of the Greenlandic film industry by the Greenlandic Film Institute's director, Inunnguaq Petrussen.
"The people who stand with me here, and of course also those at home, are those who have worked hard to develop our film industry for many years. They are the ones who have worked hard so that we can finally have the Greenlandic Film Institute. We stand together - and we will continue the fight together."
About the significance of the award, he said:
"The award marks a time of change. The award marks progress in the Greenlandic film industry, a milestone, and a great spark of hope ahead."
He also emphasized the importance of Greenland telling its own stories:
"Now is the time for us to tell our own stories, seen through our own eyes. Now is the time for us to not just sit and watch ourselves and our lives being presented from someone else's image of us."
For the Greenland Film Institute, Sær-Bodil 2026 is a recognition of the development that the Greenlandic film industry has undergone over many years, and an important step towards a future where Greenlandic stories are created and communicated on their own terms.
